Wall Street Journal: Best Companies at Managing Environmental Risk
A recent ranking from The Wall Street Journal narrowed down the 100 most sustainably managed companies in the world from a pool of more than 5,500 publicly traded companies, examining practices in areas such as business model and innovation, external social and product issues, employee and workplace topics, and the environment. We are honored to not only be one of those 100 companies but to also be the only U.S.-based organization, as well as the only containers and packaging supplier, to land on the publication’s list of the top ten best companies at managing environmental risk.
Environmental stewardship has been and will continue to be a cornerstone of our sustainability efforts. Our robust Twentyby30 initiative establishes 20 measurable goals to be achieved by the end of 2030, if not sooner. The program prioritizes areas of action based on their level of global urgency and where we could make the greatest impact as a worldwide supplier—and much of that difference revolves around responsible resource and material usage, contribution to the circular economy, and minimizing our carbon footprint.
Our strategy includes taking steps to reach our SBTi-approved science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and move toward 100% renewable electricity; reduce water usage and increase resource efficiency, and continue the momentum around high industry recycling rates and recycled content averages. Combined with the strong eco-conscious attributes of our primary product, metal, these pillars help us meet increasing demand in an ethical, mindful manner that prioritizes the health of our environment, communities, customers, and consumers. They also ensure we employ industry best practices that mitigate any risks that could stem from our operations or our products.
Our high environmental scores from The Wall Street Journal for management of water, waste, and air quality reflect these priorities and the progress made to date. We look forward to working with our customers, suppliers, and other partners to make further strides in our sustainability journey and to continue driving important industry change.
